What is Paintography?

The term Paintography doesn't exist in the webster dictionary nor Wikipedia. Some information may be found on Google and YouTube. In general it means combining painting, photography and digital printing. This field is fairly new and is still being explored by artists of various fields.
In my exploration I developed a process which led to a new body of work. Playing with paint is the key to its success. Detachment from the end result also helps.
In the first stages I randomly pour paints and mediums onto a surface, mostly canvas or wood panel. Depending on the space and the inspiration a surface can be as large as 7’ wide and as small as 7”. The diversity of the paint, mainly water, oil and latex based creates erratic reactions between the substances and results in exhilarating patterns and textures. Over a period of a week to a month the surface will dry, crack or peal and therefore change its appearance. While the paint flows, shifts and breathes I film and photograph the scene. After uploading and manipulating the images onto the computer they get printed on an ink jet printer. The archival ink and paper is conducive to an enduring and vibrant digital print.
The film part is a different trip yet to be explored.
